Condom sizes: how to find the right fit
Condoms are one of the most reliable ways to protect yourself from unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. But they only protect you fully when they’re the right size. A condom that’s too tight can feel uncomfortable and break, while one that’s too loose can slip off. In this article, we explain how to measure and choose the right condom for you.
Why does condom size matter?
A well-fitting condom fits snugly without squeezing. It’s safer because it’s less likely to break or slip, and it also feels more natural. Many men who find condoms uncomfortable are simply using the wrong size.
What does nominal width mean?
Condom size is most often given as nominal width in millimetres—the width of the unrolled condom laid flat. Length matters less, as most condoms are long enough. Approximate size groups:
- Snug fit – around 47–51 mm
- Standard – around 52–54 mm
- Large (L) – around 55–57 mm
- Extra large (XL, XXL) – around 58 mm and above
How to measure your size?
The most important measurement is girth. When erect, use a soft measuring tape to measure the circumference of the penis at its widest point. You can estimate the nominal width by multiplying the girth in millimetres by 0.4. For example, with a girth of 130 mm, the right width will be about 52 mm.
- girth up to ~12 cm – snug-fit condoms
- girth ~12–13.5 cm – standard condoms
- girth ~13.5–14.5 cm – large (L) condoms
- girth over ~14.5 cm – XL and XXL condoms
These are rough guidelines—sizes can vary slightly between manufacturers, so always check the information on the packaging or in the product description.
Signs the size isn’t right
- Too tight – it squeezes, is hard to put on, leaves an unrolled rim at the base, or breaks
- Too loose – it wrinkles, shifts during movement or slips off completely
Large and XL condoms
If standard condoms feel too tight, try a larger size. Our range includes, for example, Satisfyer Premium L 57 mm, SKYN Large, EXS Grande XL, Love Match Extra Large and EXS Magnum XXL 60 mm.
Not just size—what else to consider?
- Thin condoms – for more natural sensations, such as Secura Extra Feel or EXS Air Thin
- Latex-free – if you’re sensitive to latex, choose polyisoprene condoms such as SKYN Original
- Textured – ribs and dots for extra stimulation, such as EXS Ribbed and Dotted
- Delay – for longer-lasting sex, such as EXS Delay
- Flavoured – for oral sex, such as PASANTE Flavors
How to use a condom correctly
- Check the expiry date and make sure the wrapper isn’t damaged
- Open the wrapper with your fingers, not your teeth or scissors
- Put the condom on a fully erect penis, pinching the tip so no air is trapped
- Only use water- or silicone-based lubricant—oil damages latex. Learn more in our article How to choose a lubricant
- Use each condom only once and store them in a cool, dry place
Frequently asked questions
What’s the standard condom size?
Most standard condoms have a nominal width of about 52–54 mm. This size fits most men.
Does condom length matter?
Less than width. Most condoms are long enough, so girth and nominal width are what matter most when choosing.
What should I do if condoms often break?
The most common reasons are a size that’s too small or not enough lubrication. Try a larger size and use a water- or silicone-based lubricant.
Are latex-free condoms just as safe?
Yes. Polyisoprene condoms such as SKYN offer the same protection as latex condoms and are suitable for people sensitive to latex.
Will my order be delivered discreetly?
Yes. All Erocity orders are delivered in discreet packaging.
